Eggleston Museum Proposed For Memphis
A group of civic organizers are trying to raise $15 million to build a private museum in Memphis dedicated to native son, photographer William Eggleston.
A report earlier this week in Memphis’ Commercial Appeal newspaper says the planned 15,000-square-foot museum may open in 2013.
New York intellectual property attorney Mark Crosby is leading the development effort on behalf of a group of anonymous Memphis philanthropists. The group has reached an agreement with Winston Eggleston, the photographer’s son and administrator of the Eggleston Trust.
The deal means that Eggleston’s archive would be housed in the museum, where it would be made available for research and exhibitions.
Though the museum would be dedicated to Eggleston, it would also show work by other contemporary artists, the report said.
