Jason Groupp Sets Guinness Record for Most Flashes Used in a Photo
Our good buddy and occasional product co-tester Jason Groupp has set a new Guinness world record for using the most flashes ever by a single person in a photograph. The New York City-based Groupp harnessed the power of 300 small strobes to light this group portrait captured at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio over the weekend.
To read more about the shoot, check out the blog post on Jason’s site. The info in the post is a bit brief but Groupp promises to release more detail about the record-breaking, 300-flash photo in the days to come (once he catches up on his sleep).

I would like the last 51 seconds of my life back. Next week I’ll post my trip to Home Depot set to music! Gimmick for gimmick’s doesn’t carry the photo.

Agreed, not sure what the purpose of posting the video was, waste of my time and everyone elses who looks at it. If you haven’t watched it don’t. Unless you like random footage of someone buying plywood at HD and nothing more…
As for the photo it’s an interesting effect, but probably not worth most of the effort except as an excuse to set the “Guinness Record”
I was genuinely looking forward to seeing some kind of amazing photo when I heard about this, sadly disappointed….

If someone spent the time and effort to setup 300 strobes, you think it could at least be a creative photo.

LOL – so what do you guys really think?
I must agree with you guys that just taking a photograph of 300 flashes is a little bit boring, and silly. Guinness required evidence of all 300 lights going off, so I wanted to create a photograph that had SOME interest. So I came up with the idea that we would photograph the team who put this together…..
That said, there ARE other photographs that I took using the 300 flashes to make some pretty amazing shots – I just haven’t posted them yet! Today….

If you watch Jason Groupp’s blog, you will see some more interesting photos come out of this event. He made a series of photographs as part of his ‘I heart’ series. The photograph above was required by Guinness to prove the record. There will also be a BTS video coming in a week or two.

Let me ask the question; Have any of you ever done anything just for the sake of doing it? Have any of you attempted a world record? Have any of you tried to build and coordinate the means to trigger 300 flashes at the same time?
It may not be the most gorgeous photograph, but that’s not the point. Sometimes things are done for the sake of doing them, for pushing the boundaries, for seeing what truly can be accomplished.
I see it as someone who had a great deal of initiative to try and accomplish something new and have some fun setting a world record at the same time. To that I say bravo!
For those of you that think you can do this better, get out there and do it. The only thing that is holding you back is you.

Give me a break.
So what boundaries were pushed? What was truly accomplished, other than showing what 300 strobes mounted on 4 boards looked like in a photo?
No offense to Jason and what he accomplished, but your defense sounds emptier than what some feel this record represents. If you’re going to defend somebody, then at least make it plausible and not laughable.

Did anyone notice this part of the blog post?
“Truth be told this is actually 229 lights. Each panel has 75 lights. 2 in the rear, and one in the front for main – that’s 225, and 4 others disbursed in the shot, at higher power settings.”
That’s what the photo is missing. It would have turned out amazing if only it wasn’t 71 flashes short.
Nice t-shirts though.
