I keep going back and forth about a print portfolio versus a laptop portfolio. It’s so much less expensive to have a laptop portfolio – aren’t the days of the printed portfolios finally dead?

Are the days of the printed portfolios finally dead? No. Reports of their demise have been highly exaggerated.
Of course, have a curated portfolio on your laptop, but ideally, keep at least one updated print portfolio available for those clients who may ask to see how your images actually read in print. If you’re strapped for cash and just starting out, you can postpone the printed portfolio, but I don’t think a professional should ever place himself in the position of not having one or two printed portfolios for mailing/showing.
Back in the day photographers made 5 or 6 print portfolios, today, generally speaking, that’s overkill. One or two print portfolios, of reasonable weight for shipping and size for lifting will work just fine.
