Dear Right Moves,

I was THRILLED when I was hired by my FIRST choice, dream celebrity photographer! I am NOT thrilled now! Sure I work in his studio, but I clean his studio and run errands. I went to school to learn to be a photographer, not to sweep up. I think I should tell him that I am ready to do more for him than mop floors. How can I begin this conversation?

Mopping the Floors in Los Angeles

Dear Mopping the Floors,

Do NOT begin this conversation with your photographer.

Instead of complaining about what you don’t do, be grateful that you’ve been hired to be part of one of the most important creative teams in commercial advertising! MOPPING FLOORS? That’s a great place to begin. Do each job in his studio as well as you can, learn as much as you can from EVERYONE who’s there.

Be a SPONGE not a mop. This job is golden on your resume whether you’re cleaning floors or running errands. My suggestion is that you psyche yourself into gratitude before you blow this opportunity.
