Dear Right Moves

I think there’s a danger in my studying the work of other photographers because of the influence their images might have on my vision. I want to look at the world with fresh eyes and not be subliminally influenced by the lighting and techniques of photographers who’ve gone before me.

Visionary,  New Orleans, LA.

Dear Visionary,

RIDICULOUS. The idea that studying other photographer’s work will contaminate or unduly influence your work is patently absurd. It will educate your technique. You are already a unique person with a unique sensibility. You are a developing person, with a developing sensibility and, as the years go on, your vision will change, because you are learning from your own life and hopefully, not copying the work of others who have gone before you.
